Welcome to the Internship Office’s web-page

Internship is a practical course that takes place during the undergraduate program in chemical engineering for a duration of 240 hours at one of the industrial and technological centers, under the guidance of a faculty member and the supervision of a center’s specialist.

Taking internship units during the undergraduate program has become mandatory to familiarize students with professional environments during their studies. An intern is an individual who temporarily enters a job environment with an emphasis on training. Students preferably complete internship units one and two during two summers of their undergraduate program, after completing the required prerequisite course units. By attending the workplace, they will gain a different experience from academic education. The choice of internship location is made by the student with the approval of the faculty. If based on the student’s interest and in quality industries, it can be a great opportunity for the professional growth of students.

During the internship period, students can enhance their capabilities in project execution and management, and acquire a wide range of skills required for employment in a short period of time through real-life experience in a work environment. The internship office of the faculty is available to serve the students in carrying out current activities related to obtaining internship units and conducting relevant workshops.

Internship Unit Acquisition

• Bachelor’s degree students who have completed a minimum of 90 academic units are eligible to acquire internship units.
• The best time to acquire and complete an internship is the summer of the third year of study.
• Students applying for an internship in the summer are not allowed to acquire additional units.
• Acquiring internship units in the first and second semesters (excluding summer) is possible if the student has a maximum of 14 units, including the internship course.
• To acquire internship units in the summer, it is necessary to first pre-register in the Golestan system.

Internship Location

• The internship location must be a reputable technical or industrial institution that allows activities in the specialized field, such as:
– Engineering consulting firms
– Factories, production units, or industrial establishments
– Knowledge-based specialized companies
• Except in special cases such as the COVID-19 pandemic, conducting internships in university laboratories and research institutes is not approved.
• Some approved locations by the faculty in different cities are listed in the following file:
Approved Internship Locations (.pdf)
• The initial contact with the internship location and obtaining consent is the responsibility of the student.
• The selected internship location is reviewed and approved by the department manager through the request form.
Request for Introduction Letter for Internship Unit (.docx)
• After the internship location is approved, an email will be sent from the faculty to the internship center to officially confirm the student’s internship by completing the form, signed by the internship location managers.
• If an official introduction is required through the university’s security department, the student must send their request to the email address Imp_stc@iust.ac.ir for further actions.

Internship Supervisor

• The appointment of an internship supervisor is based on expertise, after obtaining approval from all internship centers by the research deputy of the faculty.
• The guidance supervisors for each student will be notified through the faculty’s communication channels.
• At this stage, the internship request and the name of the internship supervisor should be entered in the Golestan system for approval by the educational affairs specialist and the internship manager of the faculty, and then confirmed by the internship supervisor.
• The student is required to interact with the internship supervisor via email, introduce the internship center and topic, provide contact information, and request confirmation in the Golestan system.
• The student is obliged to invite the internship supervisor to visit the internship location, and for this purpose, necessary coordination should be made.

Internship Progress Reports
